Claypot Laksa and thick peanut toast

I love random dinners with Clark. Tonight, I finally tried the Claypot Laksa (SGD 7) that I've been eyeing in the past lunch times.

Ok fine - it looks a messy pile, but its a perfect combination of clams, tofu, shrimp and noodles in spicy creamy soup. Perfect!

For dessert, I had thick peanut toast (SGD 1.5) from Toastbox. There is nothing complicated about spreading peanut butter over bread, but I can never seem to make my toast as perfect as they can.

Ramly burger

We checked out the Halal food expo last night and I got a taste of Ramly Burger - Malaysia's most famous burger. Basically what they do is they put together the patty with all versions of sauces and veggies and wraps them in egg (SGD 3).

Note the patty and the oozing sauce at the side.

Some other random finds

Bee Cheng type of halal beef and chicken - still love Bee Cheng Hiang tho!

Mass cooking of Roti John

People bought this in bulkkkk

Some things new from West Coast Plaza

What I love about my friends is that they humour my crazy food hobby and sometimes make food tripping a major part of the weekend agenda.

Clark, Wen and I went to West Coast Plaza and got food that we've never tasted. My share was at most SGD 6

When eating communal food, we go by the no piece of shame rule. Translation: dig in before it's gone. Hence, the messy pictures

Some new squid recipe!

Thai lemon chicken

Some Malay curry-based veg

Mutton curry (am not a lamb lover tho)

Nasi goreng with Iklan Bilis - made me a believer!

My hawker staple at SGD 1.5

Food Festival in Clark Quay

Clark, Wen, Michelle and I had dinner in the Clark Quay Food Festival. Although I've tasted most of the food they featured, the Festival merits a post because I've never had so much delish food for just SGD 12 (we shared the food we bought, but still!)

Tapas Tree Paella for SGD 8/plate

Nasi Lemak with Iklan Bilis for SGD 6

Grilled chicken with coconut and spices for SGD 2 per stick

Casuarina Plain prata for 4 SGD

King Satay Chicken Satay for SGD 4

Chen Fu Ji crab bun for 2 SGD each

Stay clean!

Special mention to non Filipino dude
who spoke to us in Filipino to sell the Satay!

We had our yummeh Hokkaido ice cream by the steps by the river overlooking the party lights of Clark Quay

Winner discovery: caramel sea salt and tiramisu

Random vintage

July 2004. We were university freshmen, eating in a shack of a restaurant in UP Village. They served unlimited rice. Sulit, but keep in mind that unlimited rice can ruin you.

April 2008. I lost my entire clan in Lourdes so I waited by the church steps and ate my lunch - peanut butter, jelly and water - freebies from the buffet breakfast we has in Amsterdam 3 days before. I was that hungry, poor, and desperate.

May 2008 in Pisa. This was right outside the courtyard of the tower. Ran out of names?

May 2008. Welcome dinner by some family friends in Florence.

August 2008. In the middle of Jalan Doraisamy, one of Kuala Lumpur's clubbing spots, was the cupcake shop Bisou. I cut out the scantily clad women from this picture.

Aug 2008. Tom yum for breakfast in Chinatown in KL. This was the first time I travelled alone on a 6 hour bus, all the while feeling the electricity evoked by mobility.

Dubai, November 2008: Wild guess which coffee shop this is

Mee Rebus

The reason why I chose Mee Reebus for one random dinner was because the sauce looked a lot like kare-kare, and the thought of my favorite dish made my mouth water. Coupled with condiments that looked similar to palabok's, it seemed like a good combination of food that I liked.

The sauce turned out to be curry and the stuff sprinkled on top we're peanuts. Nothing much for SGD 4, but at least now I know what I am up against.

Nasi Lemak

As a break from our usual TTR lunch, Jho and I had Nasi Lemak in Seah Im Hawker Center. Nasi Lemak's literal translation is coconut rice, then you have an assortment of viand to go along with it fragrant rice. The flavor of the coconut settled subtly on my taste buds

Nasi Lemak with fried chicken, egg, squid and beans for SGD 3.5

Nasi Lemak with fried chicken, iklan bilis (!!) and squid for SGD 3.2

Cheap alternatives, worth a taste. Back to TTR on Monday!

Makan adventure at East Coast

(This is a VERY long entry)

Su invited me to a random and spontaneous food trip in East Coast last Friday night. I arrived on the road at 10 am the next day fell in love once again with the shop houses.

For the first part, we went restaurant hopping and finished 4 restaurants and 6 dishes.

Prawn mee

Carrot cake (that is made with radish)

Otah

Laksa

Fried tofu <3
Chicken rice
Season for dumplings

By 11:15 our stomachs were about to burst, so went back to her house to rest and eat ice cream. Back on the road at 1:30.

Her first macaroons =)

Save the best for last!

Secret ingredient out in the open!

THANK YOU SU FOR THIS CRAZY ADVENTURE!!

We were too full so we didn't finish the TTR, but there is always space for (a second round of) dessert.

We went to the Singapore Food Expo where there was A LOT of food samples. The most innovative cup we found:

Midnight hunger pangs brought Ramon, Charles, Clark and I to Newton Circus for an impulsive snack of sting ray, satay and the interesting kuay teow.

P.S. random colors
