Makan adventure at East Coast

(This is a VERY long entry)

Su invited me to a random and spontaneous food trip in East Coast last Friday night. I arrived on the road at 10 am the next day fell in love once again with the shop houses.

For the first part, we went restaurant hopping and finished 4 restaurants and 6 dishes.

Prawn mee

Carrot cake (that is made with radish)

Otah

Laksa

Fried tofu <3
Chicken rice
Season for dumplings

By 11:15 our stomachs were about to burst, so went back to her house to rest and eat ice cream. Back on the road at 1:30.

Her first macaroons =)

Save the best for last!

Secret ingredient out in the open!

THANK YOU SU FOR THIS CRAZY ADVENTURE!!

We were too full so we didn't finish the TTR, but there is always space for (a second round of) dessert.

We went to the Singapore Food Expo where there was A LOT of food samples. The most innovative cup we found:

Midnight hunger pangs brought Ramon, Charles, Clark and I to Newton Circus for an impulsive snack of sting ray, satay and the interesting kuay teow.

P.S. random colors

Vienna's Zanoni and Zanoni

We went to Vienna over a year ago today. Such a hapless family we were as we hit the city on a weekend when everything is closed -- except Rick Steves' most important recommendation:

We waited in line for 20 minutes.
On a Sunday. When we were pressed for time.
Worth it!

Happy accident: onion bulb

I left a particularly large onion bulb untouched in our stash of garlic and onions too long that it started growing small leaves. My land lord took the initiative to place it in a pot of soil.

After two weeks, we found this:

Koreatown

Dustin and I went to check out the Korean BBQ in Koreatown for Sunday lunch.

We ordered safe food like Bulgogi and Kimchi and altho it is a bit expensive, it's a good value for money because they serve A LOT of appetizers.

Our appetizers (and saucer full of each):

For our main course (at this point, we were whining cause we were full from the appetizers):

Bulgogi

Kimchi noodles. Winner!

To close the meal: free dessert. Sulit!

Baked mussels FAIL take two

My failed attempt to bake mussels two weeks ago pushed me to try it again this morning. Altho it was admittedly much better than the chicaron-like mussels I prepared before, this one was too spicy cause I put too much pepper and chili on the butter mix, and a part of me was saying that these mussels may have come from red tide cause it had an awful smell. It's still not quite what Mom used to prepare for her appetizers during gatherings.

Edible, yes, but I wasn't happy with this.

Back track: Christmas 2008

Dug up some pictures from Christmas break. Great food, tons of laughter, great family and friends.

The first people I saw when I touched down.
CPK is a sure ball. There's not much thought put to pizza and pasta.

David on the v. cool glasses.
Ynez is physically settled SOMEWHERE.
(Her mind is elsewhere, but we're working on that)

Picnic feast of MMs and nuts in Bel field.

From one of my favorite restaurants, Cyma.
This is something... with feta cheese.
It doesn't really matter what. Haha.

Fondue never fails.

Mandatory purchase: Serendra's carrot and chocolate cupcake.

We got evil stares for sneaking it in Cav.

Siopitoh christmas dinner with real siopitohs.

It's comforting sitting there and watch them make noise.

The winner tiramisu and choco mallow cake.

Tsaaaaang =)
