Som's Noodle House at the back of Rockwell

Som's is a kind of place that puts foodies in opposite ends of the specturm: some dislike dining there because it seems unhygienic and hot with moderate tasting food, while others are in high praises of its authentic Thai taste and good value for money. It's been around for a decade so I guess it is a testament to how good it is? My cousins and I sided with the latter reasoning: we are into primo value, great bagoong rice, and green curry that comes out strong.

Thai Tea for Php 40

Spring rolls for Php 90

Bagoong Fried Rice for Php 95

Green Curry Chicken for Php 150. Tender chicken strips and curry that burns your throat just right.

Phad Thai for Php 120 - this is different from the regular Phad Thai that I have, especially the ones from Bangkok. This seems sweet unlike the normal Phad Thai which is spicy and sour in different parts of one's taste bugs. I went on eating for the novelty of the taste, but used the green curry sauce for an added taste.

RennThai, Clark Quay

Bernice and I dropped by RennThai for dinner, in search for a new Asian dish.

The interesting platter we had was some sort of mix of savouries. I just had to note the beautiful plating which couldn't be captured by B's cam.

Adventure was lost by the time I got to the last page of the menu, so I opted for my usuals: Phad Thai and Avocado shake.

Pad Thai is thought to have been brought to the ancient Thai capital of Ayuthaya by Vietnamese traders – it was first made popular as a national dish by Luang Phibunsongkhram when he was prime minister during the 1930s and 1940s, partly as an element of his campaign for Thai nationalism and centralization, and partly for a campaign to reduce rice consumption in Thailand. - Source

I lost the receipt and was not able to keep track of the prices. But they should be at an affordable > SGD 30 per person.

Later on that night, Bernice and our friend Raslyn, Dust, Lizzie and Vikram headed to Pump Room room for open mic night, where I sang the embarrassing rendition of Dancing Queen.

Assorted Thai food

I don't know what my aunt placed in the viands that she served us but it was all so yummyyyyy. I went to the kitched and got myself my second servings because I could not wait for the food to be brought out.

Amidst interpolations on the dire state of the Philippine political system and the dearth of our choices for presidentiables, we dined over delicious Tom Yum, Papaya salad, and green curry chicken.

Sour and spicy - its just like magic!

Thin enough to be chewed, spicy enough to take a pause

I kept on coming back for this even if my tongue was on fire.

I've never had too much white rice to stave off the spicy flavor. And we wonder why there are no fat people in Thailand??

Savoey Seafood Restaurant, Phuket, Thailand

For last weekend's Saturday dinner after our near death experience in the Andaman, we headed to Savoey Seafood along Beach Road for some lobster.

Lobster, I saw, was a darker and harder shelled version of the shrimp.

It was difficult to choose which seafood to get because it felt surreal thinking we will eat them eventually.

We had the lobster baked in garlic. The first time I ate lobster in a longgg time.

We also had the fish cooked in garlic and spices (Fish is at THB 150 per 100 grams)

Pineapple shake =)

Patong Food Park, Phuket, Thailand

For our first meal in our beach weekend in Phuket, Clark, Ramon and I only had to cross the street and hop into Patong Food Park (along Rat U Thit street) for some freshly cooked seafood. Basically you may pick your raw seafood and choose how it will be cooked. Much like Dampa, but I must say I love Dampa much more.

The colors of the crab and the delicate fish skin held a brief spell on me. I couldn't possibly destroy that. So we opted for the funny blue fish for our steamed fish with lemon and spice.

It was magical how its vibrant yellow and blue shifted to dull gray as the temperature of the cooking pan rose. Eventually it turned into the steamed fish with lemon and spice (~THB 150/100 grams)

It slightly spicy on the buds but it turned sour at one's juicy bite. We picked on the fish meat even at the side of the bones.

Plus it came with its own charcoal set to ensure the warmth of the dish

Down to the bones! It was that good.

Thai Express take 2

My soft shell cravings and Su's Tom Yum memories brought us back the Thai Express for a random low key dinner.

Soft shell crab in curry sauce at SGD 10.90

The fact that I can eat crab like crackers baffles me. Will try this out next time I hit BKK.

Coconut based curry at SGD 7.9

It burns my throat. Exquisite.

Food and fun. Hello weekend!

Beef Noodle from Thaksin Beef Noodle

Of the seven times that I ate/ta pau-ed from Seah Im, I had Thaksin beef noodle five times because it was a sure ball good lunch. Never mind that almost all the stalls in Seah Im are rated B, some rated C, and when I briefly pass the area, its hawker smell stick on my clothes. Sometimes it only matters that I get pho noodles in herbal soup and soft beef chunks that were cooked sans tenderizers and MSG

Thaksin (yeah, why not?) Beef Noodles at SGD 4

Their Pad Thai Kuey Teow which is also strongly recommended. I have it when I'm lazy to think about what to eat.
