Wrong Ramen - feels so right that it can't be wrong

When I first floated around twitter the idea that we were going to eat in Wrong Ramen, a few of my friends advised that we go elsewhere. I was going to dine with one of my ramen snob friends (who was not happy with Yushoken quality... I wasn't either... good luck to us going against the grain) and another who spends her free time ramen house hopping in Washington D.C. After much deliberation, and mainly due to location (we were coming from the wonderful world of Manos), we decided, to quote, "experience the disappointment first hand."

Maybe it's because we dispelled our expectations or there was just a lot of pork fat in the soup, but the ramen was quite good. We all went out of Wrong Ramen happy with our decision.

I went for my #FoodFavorite, Dandan Mian (spelled on the menu as Tantanmen). It was so creamy and flavorful I didn't even want to think about what sort of fat and calories were in there. Cheat day!

Bellagio (the real Cafe Lugang!)

It was the third week in Beijing of my good friends Anton and Ralvin, and we finally got together for our first winter night out together. We strolled along 新中关 and ended up in another version of Bellagio. In Manila, this is famously known as Lugang Cafe. The interiors are more or less the same. Some of what we had:

Dumpling Pro

This isn't part of our week-long Michelin hop but my mom and I tried Dumpling Pro in Wan Chai, to be consistent with our all-Chinese meal plan. I've read reviews that its 饺子's wrapper-to-filling ratio was spot on, allowing the subtle sweetness of the fresh pork to shine through in every bite, while its skin has a light floury fragrance and slight chewiness. I was sold.

Out of excitement for our dumplings, we over-ordered and had to stop mid-eating and go into a lengthy conversation to give our tummies time to digest.

Crystal Jade (在香港机场)

My mom and I's first Michelin stop was Crystal Jade Restaurant in HKIA. Crystal Jade was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand Category - the inspectors' food favourites in top quality restaurants.

My brother and I went to Crystal Jade Shanghai last November, so I knew what to expect, and went back to basics on this visit.

Baguo Buyi (Sichuan Food)

I've been craving for Sichuan food since my Aunt mentioned her trip to Sichuan province. My mother influenced me to love spicy food, thus my natural affinity to Sichuan dishes. This one, in particular, was a perfect match for a freezing Sunday evening. Thanks to my good friend Charles for the treat!

Din Tai Fung (!!) in Beijing

I wanted my brother to have a taste in one of my favourite restaurant chains, Din Tai Fung. We visited their outlet in Beijing and found the place looking high-end, unlike their outlets in Singapore that looked like a regular restaurant where people streamed in and out from.

I missed these dumplings =) Pork Xiao Long Bao for RMB 45/10 pieces

Crystal Jade Restaurant 上海

After having my cocktail in Luna Bar, my brother and I met up in Crystal Jade Restaurant to satiate my craving for DanDan Mian. I absolutely loved this place. Not only was my Dandan Mian spicy-peanut perfect, but my brother also kept on praising the food as he ate. He's the type of person who ignores food he doesn't like, so I trust his discriminating taste. Some of what we had:

Dandan Mian - loved this! - for RMB 35. I'd go back to this restaurant if only for this.

Din Tai Fung, Singapore

Din Tai Fung was one of my favourite places if only for the deliciously addictive Xiao Long Bao (dim sum). I tried out DanDan Mian that was supposed to be spicy but its more of peanut butter soup. It's a carb plate but the sauce was indescribably great!

DanDan Mian for SGD 9

I found out that Din Tai Fung was rated a 1 Michelin star. This would suffice until I have a taste of Four Seasons' Caprice and Lung King Heen.
