Bibigo

My Beijing flatmates Nik and Michealle found this amazing Korean place in Beijing called Bibigo. The restaurant is positioning themselves as the healthy version of McDonalds. Bibigo simplifies the way one orders in 4 steps (after the break):

水烤晶肉-Korean Roast Meat Restaurant

韩国的尚烤肉点 - Korean Roast Meat Restaurant

The title roughly translates to "shuikao jingrou" : Water-roast-crystal-meat. I suppose true to form, the meat is roasted on a crystal-like slab placed at the center of the table.

Due to my hankering for kimchi, the Xian gang of four met for Christmas dinner in a Korean roast meat restaurant. We had a whole bunch of stuff, but my selected pics are:

Salang Bang Korean Restaurant in Wudaokou

After a day of walking in the Summer Palace, we tried out the Korean restaurant in Wudaokou area. Wudaokou area is the university district, as it is home to China's two big universities, Peking Uni and Tsinghua University, as well as the popular language school Beijing Language and Culture University.

My ultimate survival manual, Lonely Planet (thank you Charles!!), suggested that we have a meal in Salang Bang, a big hang-out for the many South Korean students. The restaurant is known for their Korean barbecue and seafood (but we had a basic bibimbab instead).

Their appetizers were given in spoonfuls, but I guess the tiny disdain comes from the mindset of high standards from Singapore's Koreatown.

I don't actually recognize this, nor can I tell what this is

Fried sweet potato strips

Lettuce in Kimchi

Noodles

Raddish of sorts

Bibimbab for RMB 30

Grilled Corvina for RMB 30

Just Acia in Dhoby Exchange

I was leisurely going around Dhoby Exchange when I found myself standing in the line with people I thought were merely being held back by a crowd. The reason: Just Acia’s meals below SGD 10 came with unlimited soft drinks and unlimited ice cream.

I’d do anything for unlimited ice cream.

Spicy chicken whatever. SULIT!

It was the Night Festival in Bras Basah.

The Tree of Light. You have to believe it before you can see it.

The Festival granted free entrance in the museums. Normal fee is at SGD 18 which is WORTH IT because it's rich with design.

The Panton exhibit was on. So much creativity can be juiced from a chair.

Koreatown

Dustin and I went to check out the Korean BBQ in Koreatown for Sunday lunch.

We ordered safe food like Bulgogi and Kimchi and altho it is a bit expensive, it's a good value for money because they serve A LOT of appetizers.

Our appetizers (and saucer full of each):

For our main course (at this point, we were whining cause we were full from the appetizers):

Bulgogi

Kimchi noodles. Winner!

To close the meal: free dessert. Sulit!
