特色菜 - 新建餐厅 Xinjiang Restaurant

On the Saturday of the 北航大学 University of Aeronautics debate workshop, around 12 of us had dinner in a Xinjiang restaurant near their school. I lost the name and the address but kept photos of our dishes. The best thing about eating with lots of Chinese friends is we get to try so many varieties because all the (12!) dishes are put on the lazy-Susan.

Sumilao Corn Coffee arrives in Beijing!

No, Beijing is not a new distribution outlet for Philippines' almost famous Sumilao Corn Coffee, but I did pack some of it in my bag so I can enjoy it during the cold winter evenings here in China's political capital. I love the smell of it wafting while I read my books. It reminds me of the equally yummy chocnut coffee that I had, only this one I can brew right on my kitchen top.

The coffee is great as it is (no sugar!) but sometimes I add variations like sprinkles of chocnut powder or a dallop of condensed milk to recreate Hanoi coffee)

Dessert by Gabriel

My first guest post! This one is from my brother Gabriel who is currently based in San Francisco. Since he is alone right now staying in a flat, it left him more than ample time to create and concoct meals for himself. In an effort to contribute to my blog, he sent me a photo of this un/healthy dessert that he made.

Ingredients:
1. Strawberry
2. Banana
3. Melted chocolate (random chocolate - melted on the pan with butter)

Pour the melted chocolate on the fruits and freeze for 30 minutes.

P.S. Gabriel is taking baking classes so watch out for more guest posts on his creations! =)

Kanin Club

I had dinner with my cousins in Kanin Club in Ayala Triangle Gardens back when I had my vacation in Manila. It was my first time to enter Kanin Club after I've heard so much about it from my friends. They served ordinary Filipino food fare (some of our choices were aligue rice, kare-kare, binuklod na tilapia and pork chops) but I wanted to bring attention to the new dish that I had that evening.

Crispy Tadyang - crunchy and lightly seasoned beef spare ribs served with three dipping sauces for PHP 179. Tasted like very much dried beef. It really helped that the soy sauce that accompanied it was yummy.
